Introduction:-
·
CV
stands for “curriculum vitae”
·
Curriculum
Vitae is Latin for “Life story”
·
A
CV is a formatted experience document.
The first step of applying for a job is to
prepare a Curriculum Vitae or Resume.
Most people
think of it as an odious work and go about it with a lack of enthusiasm, little
realizing that it plays an important role in their acquiring a job. No doubt, preparing
a curriculum vitae or Resume is a laborious task but it can be mastered with
diligence.
Whenever a post is
advertised ,a large number of resumes are received .The screening criterion is
followed by the company and only a few
of the lot are accepted for the final screening round .Therefore ,it is
important to capture the interest of the prospective employer by sending
well-written Rsume. Usually a resume is accompanied with acovering letter. Letter of application can be solicited
or unsolicited. A solicited letter is sent in response to an advertisement. An
unsolicited letter is a self –initiated proposal.
Eitherways they need to be well-written or they will be ignored.
Some people merely mention the degrees acquired, whereas if one mentions the
skills which have been acquired or work experience, he has a better chance of catching
the interest of the prospective employer.
RESUME
It is a typical document needed
for job applicants. It’s a summary of your work and academic experiences. There
is a strategy to write a resume so that it can highlight all your best work.
Often, recruiters and HR people receive several applications for a job position.
They just look through the resumes faster and create a pool of shortlisted
candidates.
A resume
aims at capturing the attention of the reader. Since the basic purpose is to
secure an interview , it has to give skills, accomplishments and education of
the candidate in such a way so as to depict has suitability for the post. It is
virtually a hard sell of the candidate’s traits so that the selector is made to
realize that the candidate has skills and achievements necessary for job. It
can be tailor- made for a specific job or company. There are no hard and fast
rules about writing a resume. The
candidate must present information about himself in such a way that it generates
an interest in the prospective employer.
PURPOSE OF
RESUME
The
resume has only one purpose: to succeed an interview. If it plays an
instrumental role in achieving it then we can consider it to be effective, otherwise
it is deemed failure. Resume can be termed as an advertisement. It presents the
candidate in the best light and garners interest. It inspires the prospective
employer to call the candidate for the interview.
The individuality and the confidence
of the candidate can be judged from the Resume. The writing skills too can be
gauged from it. Moreover, it list past history, educational background and
references. It shows candidate’s problem solving ability. It should depict his
result-oriented qualities. The often heard complaint by employers about resumes
is that they lack specific objective. So avoid this pitfall.
